The most frequently searched question for all Big4s are who are their largest clients. In the previous blog we looked into how EY stacks in regard to audit clients versus the total S&P 500 Companies. Below is a scatterplot showing the audit fee distribution of EY clients in the US.

Here is the list of top 25 clients of EY in terms of total fees in millions. The communication services and information technology sectors are the major contributor in terms of audit fees for EY. These 25 clients together contribute $757 million in audit fees for EY. EY total audit revenue from their US Operations is $4.4 Billion.

EY is one of the biggest audit firms in the world. They operate through a network of firms across the world. The services under EY’s Assurance platform include (1) Audit (2) Audit Quality (3) EY Digital Audit (4) Financial Accounting Advisory Services (5) Forensic & Integrity Services (6) Climate Change and Sustainability Services (7) EY Reporting (8) Sustainable impact hub.

Looking closer at EY’s audit clients within S&P 500 companies, EY’s biggest market share is within the Communication services. EY audits 41% of the companies within the Communications sector. The biggest EY’s audit clients in the communication sector are AT&T, Verizon, Google, and Facebook. In dollar terms, EY’s biggest share is from the Healthcare sector which brings in $313 million in audit fees. The biggest client in healthcare sector is Danaher Corp.

New York has some of the biggest names in the financial industry. Its no surprise that NY has 55 of the S&P 500 companies. That’s a solid 11% in one state. PwC New York office as expected leads over the other big3 both in terms of fees and number of clients. JP Morgan is the biggest client for PwC in terms of fees with a mind boggling $105 million. Probably the biggest fees among all clients [Check out our other posts!]. Deloitte New York office brings in $301 million total audit fees while KPMG New York brings in $278 million.

BDO makes it to the list for the first time. BDO audits Henry Schein, an health care distribution company. For my enthusiast friends who like to see the details, here you go! Some of the audit fees on this list are the biggest source of revenue for the big4 firm. Source of constant revenue even during a pandemic or recession.
